Samsung Tablet Pc
Samsung held a press event last night offering a chance to take a look at several of their upcoming Windows 8 mobile computers, including Ultrabooks (the lightweight laptops branded by Intel), laptops, all-in-one desktop systems and, most notably, its upcoming laptop/tablet hybrids.Until recently, I've resisted using a tablet for business -- I've been touch-typing for so long that it's become second nature, and so far I've been unable to find any advantage to using a tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard vs. my trusty -- if aging -- netbook. However, I'm very interested in these new hybrid systems. The idea that one of these devices can be used as a laptop, and that you can separate the display and carry that as a tablet, is intriguing.Samsung's contribution to this genre consists, at this point, of two upcoming Windows 8 devices: The ATIV Smart PC 500T and the ATIV Smart PC Pro 700T. Both offer 11.6-in. touch LED displays that click neatly into a keyboard base; you push a button at the top of the keyboard to release the display. Each will also include one of Samsung's S Pen digital styli (which are already included with Samsung's Note smartphones and tablets). The lower-end 500T will weigh 1.65 lb. and come with an Intel Atom Z2760 processor, 2GB RAM and a 64GB SSD for storage; the display will be capable of 1366 x 768 resolution. It will list at $749.99.The 700T, on the other hand, will ship with Intel's Core i5-3317U chip and will include 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD; the display will be capable of 1920 x 1080 resolution. The 1.89 lb. device will list for $1,199.99. No ship date was available, but the assumption was that they would ship shortly after the October 26th introduction of Windows 8.
